The Ford GT Carbon Series Is An Angry Lightweight Special
Confusingly, the already mostly carbonfibre Ford GT is now available in a limited-run ‘Carbon Series’ guise. Which doesn’t, as you might expect, add a whole stack of new carbonfibre parts to replace the few parts of the GT not made from the stuff.
There’s a new titanium exhaust, titanium wheel nuts and a rear hatch constructed from polycarbonate, while the bodywork has sprouted some new vents, making some of the panels lighter.
There is at least one carbonfibre item on the menu, however: the new wheels, which look suitably menacing. The fresh rims, along with the other changes, drop the overall weight figure by 18kg.
Unlike the GT Competition revealed a couple of years ago, however, the Carbon Series keeps much of the standard GT’s creature comforts. Air conditioning and the Sync 3 infotainment system are still present, but - gasps - the cupholders have been binned.
The name starts to make a little more sense if you take a close-up look at the car, where you’ll see stripes that expose the carbon under the paintwork, along with naked carbon A-pillars and lower body panels. It’s showing more visible carbonfibre than any other version of the GT, Ford says.
On the inside, the sills, centre console and air vents are all finished in matt carbon, while the steering wheel now sports a fancy new set of anodised shift paddles.
If you want to make your Carbon Series look even fancier, there are four optional accent packages to choose from, daubing the mirror caps, centre stripe and brake calipers in either silver, orange, red or blue.
It’s available to order now for existing “approved [GT] customer applicants”. Ford will only be building one of its special GT models a week, meaning the Carbon Series will remain an extremely rare version of an already very limited supercar.
Comments
This paragraph made so little sense.
Dear God! I am confused.
I’m so confued rn. Is carbonfiber supposed to be spelt with a re instead of er?
I think “and” is supposed to be “add”
I can’t help but feel that the GT will be the new-but-not Zonda.
Oh my lord
I’m gonna drown in my own nut
Interesting way to go to one’s demise…
Somebody at Ford must’ve visited the McLaren Factory
