This Aston Martin Soap Box Racer Is Your Weekend Dose Of Awesome
Aston Martin is going for glory in something a bit smaller than you might expect: a soap box racer.
Tomorrow, a team from Aston’s development and racing driver cohort will compete in the Red Bull Soap Box Race at London’s Alexandra Palace, where teams of ambitious and not always rubbish crews try to wow the judges with their gravity-fed speed.
Aston Martin’s Prototype Operations Senior Engineer, Alex Summers, will take the wheel of a miniature V8 Vantage GTE while Le Mans class winners Darren Turner and Jonny Adam will be part of the points-scoring show at the top of the course, helping to give the mini-Vantage a strong start.
If you haven’t seen footage from the Red Bull Soap Box races from around the world, shows are broadcast in the UK on Dave. They’re brilliant fun to watch, using downhill courses peppered with chicanes, jumps, berms and more to test the strength and skill of the karts and racers. Crashes are frequent and often a bit nasty. The winners are the ones who not just record the fastest time down the course, but who stage the best pre-run show at the top.
Aston’s entry looks pretty awesome, and despite the well-publicised commercial tie-in between the company and Red Bull, we’re assured there’s going to be no bias. We can’t wait to see how it goes.

And finally a car where I can take my girlfriend with me (I don’t have one)
Ah! You see the second it is made by the manufacturer, the price instantly raises. E.g. Bburago aston vantage costs £30, official Aston Vantage costs upwards of £100
Only in americ- ah I’m wrong again!
I wish it was a Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE Little Tikes Edition.
Love it
Why does this brings back the soap box rx7s memories? Evomills (Outrun)

The driver can last long until brakes overheat, foot braking kicked in yo! (sort of)
Ferrari has one too, but it’s a little pricier.
