This Tuning Company Has Made An E30 M3/E46 M3 CSL-Inspired M240i

If the BMW M240i just doesn’t excite you enough, there is an easy solution: you make the jump to the shoutier M2 Competition. Or, there’s another option from Mulgari.

The Bracknell, UK-based company has just revealed the Icon03, which takes the M Performance 2-series and adds a substantial amount of BMW heritage-inspired visual drama.

See those very angular wheel arch flares? They’re supposed to echo the box arches of the E30 M3. The dimpled carbonfibre roof, meanwhile, is inspired by the E46 M3 CSL. Finally, the front wing’s winglets are a nod to the E9 CSL.

The big arches aren’t just there for show, either - the tyre size has been upped considerably from the standard car’s 225 front/245 rear setup to 255/275. Mulgari hasn’t revealed exactly what else has been done in the handling department, although it notes that “chassis and suspension have been a major focus” during the car’s development. To show how effective the changes have been, the Icon03 will be sent around the Nurburgring to set a lap time in late July.

Full performance figures will be revealed once the car has been dyno tested, although Mulgari has said that the B58 inline-six turbo engine now develops 435lb ft of torque, up from the standard car’s 369lb ft figure. Expect a power output around 450bhp, and a fruity exhaust note - the Icon03 has been given a new set of lungs courtesy of Akrapovic.

In the cabin, there are new Recaro seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel which appears to be clad in Alcantara, big carbonfibre shift paddles and some splashes of “accent colour”.

The price is another detail we’ll have to wait for confirmation on, but our understanding is it’ll be somewhere in the region of £60,000 - £65,000 for a completed car. Production will be limited to just 25 units.
