Toyota's New FT-1 Concept Could Mean That A Supra Successor Is Imminent
Toyota has unveiled two updates to the awesome FT-1 concept, a car it unveiled earlier this year. The first reveal was the Vision Gran Turismo, a pure race car adaptation available for download in GT6, but the second reveal was much more interesting, and much more unexpected.
A real-world FT-1 has been built and features a gorgeous new graphite paint job. In this less lairy colour it looks like a viable production car - a kind of low fat Lexus LFA. This is interesting because we know that BMW and Toyota are working together on a sports car project, rumoured to be the ‘new’ Supra. The fact that Toyota is continuing to develop the Future Toyota program could be a hint that it is serious about putting an evolution of this car into production. It has form, employing the same tactics with the aforementioned Lexus LFA prior to a production-ready model.
The ‘real car’ legitimacy is accentuated by the fact that we can now see the FT-1’s seriously cool interior for the first time. The seats and flat-bottomed steering wheel are clad in saddle tan leather, while the instruments are given a super futuristic look. The top of the steering wheel displays information such as your ‘drive mode’, with a head-up display showing the car’s speed and vital stats.
If there’s one car we want to become a reality, it’s this one. It looks incredible, and with the expertise of both BMW and Toyota potentially behind it, you know it’ll handle like a dream. We’re already saving the pennies.
