V-Max Mode Among Five Drive Settings For New Ford GT

Want to go fast in your new Ford GT? Ford has just the ticket. Forget Drift Mode - the new supercar is going to be all about V-Max

The new Ford GT will have five distinct driving modes that adjust the car’s engine, stability control, gearshift, ride height and aerodynamic characteristics, according to new information released by Ford. Bear with us; this gets complicated.

The modes will be Normal, for general biffing around, Wet, for when you don’t want to die in bad weather, Sport for pretending you’re on track, Track for when you actually are on track, and V-Max for when it’s all about finding maximum straight-line speed. Ford says the GT is good for 216mph.

Mode: Wet

Activated with a Ferrari-style selector dial on the steering wheel, each mode has a unique instrument cluster layout courtesy of the digital dashboard. Different readouts and dials are given priority according to those that best suit the specific driving mode.

On top of the five modes there’s launch control, which works in any setting except Wet, and an air brake that cuts in when you hit the anchors at anything over 75mph. Wet and Normal share most of the same characteristics but with reduced throttle sensitivity for less chance of making a fool out of yourself on a slippery bend. Ride height is set to 120mm and the rear wing automatically deploys at 90mph. Pressing the Comfort suspension mode button in either of these modes softens the ride a little, but it’s only available in these two.

With us so far? Good. Sport ups the temperature with sharper throttle response and involves the anti-lag system more. The stability control then opens out with three driver-adjustable options for ‘widened slip’, because saying ‘drifting’ is politically incorrect. How much lairy oversteer would sir like?

Track lowers the ride height to 70mm, while spring rates rise and the damping switches to its firmest. The rear wing is permanently deployed and the front flaps close for better aerodynamics. Ford insists it’s for track use only.

V-Max mode uses the same lower ride height but folds all the aerodynamic aids to their slipperiest settings. Stability control stays active and works to keep the car in a straight line.

Shall we take bets on how long it takes for the first V-Max mode Autobahn video to hit YouTube?

V-MAX, in much simpler terms, is American V-TEC.

If I were a rich man (with connections based off the waiting list) this would be in my garage. My personal opinion is that this is one of if not the most beautiful new cars on sale
