Did you know the early VW Beetles had no indicator lights? They had these small orange bars that popped out of the B pillar instead. In Brazil they are called "Bananinhas" (Small Bananas). Do these have a specific name where you live?
Lots of really older cars had these. They’re unreliable in the dark though.
Indeed. The Beetle case is interesting because it lasted for much longer than many cars. If I’m not mistaken this lasted until 1961 for this VW.
Did you know that the first Beetles weren’t made by VW but by KDF (Kraft durch Freude) a National Socialism “organisation” that stood for the ideal life? Also these were designed by Ferdinand Porsche.
Yup. It was design to fulfill the needs of an average German family at the time, which were given to Porsche by the dictatorship at the time. It is a dark past for such a lovely car. Also, this is the first car to bear the “Porsche shape”. So in a way, this is the 911’s grandfather. Now, did you know there is a controversy regarding the true creator of the beetle? There is a story about an Hungarian engineer named Josef Ganz, who made a car named the “Maikäfer” or Ladybug, which was invented before the KdF. The KdF ended up having many features of the Maikäfer, but the controversy still exists.
They are called Semaphores
Interesting. Isn’t semaphore another name for traffic lights as well?
Actually when i was in 3rd grade i made a project about beetles
Cool! I also made some projects on cars in middle school, but not on the Beetle specifically.
