Disklok USA: The Story So Far

Since launching in America we have already learned a few new things, it’s only been two weeks! As we have been quite open with Car Throttle we have decided to draft up a little post to share with you our new found knowledge.

America LOVEs Trucks

While this probably won’t surprise many, and we sort of knew this already, it certainly caught us off guard. America seriously loves their trucks. This is pretty standard of course, but from our orders so far it’s very clear just how much this is true. 75% of our orders have been for Pick-ups, while in the UK this number is probably less than 5%.

What’s more, it seems thieves also follow the trend, as speaking with customers briefly they have also mentioned the increase in trucks (especially Ford/Chevrolet) being stolen above other car types.

While unfortunate, this is a great bit of knowledge for us as we can certainly use this to help people and make sure our product works across the vast range of trucks available.

American Customers are Polite

You may not believe us when we say this, especially with some stories you hear, but the customers we have encountered so far are so polite! We have learned so much by simply communicating, while it purely may be down to the way we provide our service, even just providing the basics we have found American customers to use their manners properly and be super polite with us!

One particular customer has been extremely polite. Amazon can be a troubling channel to sell on, as one slip up can cost dearly. We of course strive to provide a perfect service and it seems customers strive to be the best they can too!

We communicate frequently, upon placing the order we will thank you with a little back story (not too much, don’t want to bore anyone!) and details on how and when the order will be dispatched and when tracking will be available. We follow this up when the order is dispatched and also on the day of delivery. So far we have been returned this favour with great feedback, thank you e-mails galore and more! American’s are polite!

They Really Are Living by "Bigger is Better"

Again, really not too surprising but this really did catch us off guard, even more so than the pick up truck. In America, bigger is better. In the UK we probably sell 95% of our stock as the small size. England is a small country with small cars, so it makes sense that the steering wheels shrink to adjust to this size.

America is no different to the scale trend, since their cars get bigger, the steering wheels do too. We prepared for America totally the wrong way, we wrote a list and said to ourselves “this is the stock we will send”, then sent it. Now that we’re officially selling in America we can see that we completely misjudged the size of things over there.

Because of this, we ended up sending more Smalls than Mediums, but resulting are selling more Mediums than Smalls!

Our overall impression of America is fantastic, we are really looking forward to “Make America Secure Again!” and we are certainly building a wall around thieves. The feedback from customers so far tells us that their prayers of the best car security being available over there is now answered and while at first we may come across some barriers, we’re on the right track and certainly glad to share this with the CTzens who helped support us to get there!

Check out our Amazon listing here, even if to just see the awesomeness we have created, and thank you for your support so far Car Throttle! #cheekydisklok

People can learn a manual, you can’t learn a Disklok.
