My favorite cars #4 : Nissan GT-R (R35) #blogpost

The R35 is the sucessor to the infamous R34. This generation of the GT-R was unveiled by Nissan in the 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon, it was available on the U.S. by 2008 and to the rest of the world by 2009. The GT-R concept was unveiled at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Salon, with Nissan saying that the production car would look 90-95% like the concept shown

The body

The designer was Kazutoshi Mizuno, altough he didn’t participate in the concept, he was somehow given the job of designing the brand’s flagship. The car is pretty aggresive, featuring one of the weirdest door handles that I’ve ever seen on a car, excluding those of the MP4-12C. The R35 is also pretty slippery, with a drag coefficient of only 0,27. . As explained before, Nissan said that the production car would look 90-95% like the concept, it ended up looking very similarly

The Engine

The GT-R is powered by the VR38DETT, a 3,8L Twin Turbo V6 producing 542hp at the wheels, with an electronically limited top speed of only 315km/h. The SpecV doesn’t receive any extra power, but instead it receives a revised suspention, carbon ceramic brakes and Recaro bucket seats made of carbon fiber. However things get interesting on the Nismo version, with the engine beefed up to a more respectable 600hp, producing basically 100hp per cylinder. On the Nismo version you also get RAYS rims, a Nismo tuned suspension, a dry carabon fibre spoiler and trunk lid, with a revisited interior. Then there are the mad tuners that tune their GT-R’s to 1000+ hp figures

The Interior

The interior shown in the image belongs to a Nismo-tuned GT-R, as you can probably guess by the red seats and red tachometer. It has bucket seats, a stripe on the steering wheel (Because racecar) and a central display developed by Polyphony, the same developers of the Gran TURDismo series. Polyphony is well known for their easy to read menus on the GT series, so when Nissan needed to develop the central screen, they called Polyphony.

The Possibilities

Cars like the R35, NA Miata, BRZ, RX7’s and so on have a lot of potential to be modified, doesnt matter if it is for the engine, like Toyota’s infamous 2JZ or Nissan’s RB26, or if it is due to the body, like the S15, BRZ and the 370z are very modifiable, in the R35’s case, both apply. Companies like Liberty Walk, Rocket Bunny, Varis, BenSopra have all developed bodykits for the R35 whilst companies like Armytrix and Blitz are responsible for the engine tuning. Then there is the stupid Instagrammer/Youtuber that owns a GT-R and wraps it, puts an exhaust and….. NEVER USES IT FOR WHAT IT IS MEANT TO BE (Adnan isn’t one of them)

Overall

The R35 is a great drivers’ car, even though many say that this is a computer, you need to have the balls to floor it, even though this is awd, you can still have a lot of fun in one of them. Sadly, as I said before with my R34 post, the fanboys of this car are the worst part of it, saying stupid things like “teh GTR can beat you’re Veyron”, no, as a CTzen said before, a 1500+ hp supra will of course beat a stock Gallardo, but if the Gallardo was tuned, the supra would eat dust, and if both were in stock shape, the Gallardo would still beat the Supra.

Everything said and done, it’s time to round up this blogpost by Agus aka Sir GT-R.

Talk to you later!

TurboToddler (Straight-five)

Refers to GT as ‘Gran Turdismo,’ but uses a picture from said series in their post…

Otherwise I like it!
