Hardtop Side-latches
My hardtop has the side latches on it but my Miata never came factory with a hardtop so it doesn’t have the brackets to latch onto. Wondering if they’re necessary to have? I know they help stiffen the car and keep wind noise down but so far the top seems pretty leak free. Plus, if anyone has any links where you could buy the brackets that would be awesome!

you should be fine just some weight reduction bro.
LOL
I don’t know if they’re necessary but on paper it sounds like a good idea to have more points holding the roof down.
Frankenstein bolts on the back, 2 on the side by the seat belts and obviously your soft top ones. Not hard to find the latches on the sides people break up mx5s all the time.
Just get side brackets if you have the latches for them. Mine never had them, but the brackets were there on the car. I never bothered and it was completely fine at any speed as long as you have the front and rear mounting points secured.
Side latchets are very important. Not only it does make the roof more intact. But it will stop the roof from flexing when going hard into corners.
You will hear more ‘creaching’ sounds without them, and you will definitely feel a lot more secure with all 4 latchets installed.
Never drove mine with them on. It’s been a year, no problems. You’ll be just fine
I drive for about 6 months without the side latches before I installed them. It made a huge difference when I installed them. It’s worth the money.
Me and the previous owner of peter never used those and I don’t plan on getting some since I use the soft-top when i can
Never had any problems
Decided to buy a set. So long as they reduce wind noise, stiffen the car up and make it a better ride I’m happy. Generally only use the hardtop
What side mount neva heard of them i rhought there was two on the rood and two behind the seat
It’s the two behind the seat that I was wondering about. I have the side latches but just bought some striker panels for them
