What’s the story behind the Mecham Racing plaque, and the MSE badge on the sail panel? Your center console is very different from my 86; got me curious.
The mayor of Scottsdale Arizona had two sons who wanted to race in trans am so they took their racing company which was a off brand they created so they could sell modified cars at their Pontiac dealership and built 500 of them to make them regulation and raced them and it was the only Trans Am to win Trans Am and they will tell you all about the car you have if you send them $50-60. That is all I know about it
Well that’s awesome. It’s just the kind of heritage that makes a car a little extra special. Glad to see one of 500 in such good shape!
They made 150 in 83 and 25 in 84
The GTA trans am has a wing inspired like this but these are more aggressive than the gta but these the gta ones were also a lot cheaper to make and are low quality
The car is decent if you ignore the broken oil gauge, heater core, missing wheel caps, dry leather, half the headliner missing, rust, chipping paint, sorta working speedometer, sorta working odometer, bumper that falls apart, headlights that hate going down, broken handbrake, and hood that doesn’t stay up
So, typical life with an F-body, gotcha. My odometer is broken, transmission has 2 leaks, heater core is broken and bypassed, vacuum leaks are severe enough to throw a check engine light, power lock motors are worn out, A/C condenser is out of whack (either the clutch or an internal bearing, but it’s still R12), and the carb is so out of whack that my garage smells like gas for a few days after I park it. The usual, really.
I forgot the broken overdrive unit and about a year ago the car had a fuel line that had a leak
The car is a total POS but it is a fast POS and that is why I like it
