Why aren't sequential gearboxes Street legal?

I am sorry for asking this question if they are Street legal but so far my research is telling me they aren’t. I like sequential gearboxes, for one, race cars and f1 cars use it and secondly you don’t need to waste time shifting through the ‘H’ pattern of a normal gearbox

I think they would be too expensive, so no manufacturer tries to get a license for their product.

The ones they use are noisy due to the straight cut gears and theyre expensive. Have you taken a look at their prices online? Its quite absurd. If something goes wrong its probably gonna be hard and expensive to fix. Thats why i prefer manuals cause its simple

Isn’t BMW’s SMG-gearbox a sequential one?

I think its different with the electronic pedal system and the dubble clutches. You basically tell the automatic transmission what to do instead of having a mechanism.
