My Suzuki GN 125 Build Plan And What Needs Doing To It.
I’ve always thought about getting my Motorcycle Licence but I’ve also always wanted to modify some kind of vehicle, and I’ve always put modifying a car further up my ‘bucket list’ than getting my Motorcycle Licence. Mighty Car Mods uploaded a video onto their second channel a few months ago called ‘The First Ride | Motorcycle Make Over’ and that was when I decided that it was time to do this.
So here’s the backstory on the bike. My mum bought a 2001 Suzuki GN 125 in what she claims was 2013 even though it feels like it’s been sitting in my back yard for even longer that, and she is going to just give it too me at some point as I’ve decided get my Motorcycle Licence, and this bike is going to take a few years to complete, so a 500cc engine swap is a part of my overall build plan but I will get into that further down. It’s old, dirty, smells bad and hasn’t been ridden in five years……. “Hi Cheryl”, but all those years of neglect can and will be reversed.
Things That Need Fixing
The bike ran and moved under it’s own power when it was left in my backyard almost 5 years ago, but doesn’t start at the moment. Everything that needs to be done to get it started such as charging the battery and filling tank should take half a day, unless the engine has seized which is a possibility, then it will need a re-build which will take another day or two. The brakes also need fixing. All of that and an Oil change should be good enough to get this bike through an MOT.
What I Want To Do To It.
Overall I want to modify this bike to look like the BW029 made by ‘Bad Winners’ in France. There are two issues that I have with those bikes. One, They still have a 125cc engine which is most likely the original and two, They cost £4,500 which is way too much for a 125cc bike.
I want to paint the engine, frame, exhaust and wheels matt black I want to paint the tank a bright (ish) yellow (I’ll leave a picture of the perfect colour below). The wheels that are on the bike at the moment don’t look very nice not because they’ve been out in the elements neglected for five years. I just don’t like them, therefore I think some black wire Spoke Wheels will make the bike look a lot nicer. Every other modification can be seen in the picture above.
Now for the most expensive part. I do want to do an engine swap in the next two to three years ( I feels so far away) and I think the perfect engine size for this size frame would be 500cc. There are also some legal issues with having more than that. Some of you people who are still reading this might be thinking that an engine swap is a bad idea. Well I agree, but even though it’s a bike which weighs as much as slightly overweight person without an engine, 12 BHP isn’t enough. My mum’s friend said that he got it up to 75mph on the motorway, but I want to get at least 90mph out of it. I probably wouldn’t go that speed, but it’s nice to know that it can do it. I don’t know what engine I would put in it, but I would like to get about 40 BHP out of it.
This is my first Motorbike post and there will be many more, mainly about how the build is going.

Unique,be different 👍🏾 you will love it more than something off the showroom floor.
I hope I’ll love it more. I wouldn’t even think about getting my Bike licence if all I was going to do is to go to a dealer and buy one out right without doing anything to it.
Nice! Kinda looks like the suzuki van van
Thanks for mentioning the Suzuki Vanvan. Now I know what bike to get wheels and tires from.
Good plan. 125 is still plenty fast whilst you’re learning, but I wouldn’t want to stay on mine forever. I love that style, but my bike is the wrong shape to modify really
I’m going to leave the 125 in the bike until I’ve passed the tests as 125cc is the biggest engine that I can legally ride whilst learning and then I’ll go looking for a new engine. The issue with the GN 125 is that it isn’t very good with hills, but as I live in a valley, hills are everywhere.
Looks like a pretty cool project. If its sat for awhile plan on cleaning/rebuilding the carb. A bigger carb should give the stock 125 motor a good boost in power.
I opened the engine earlier today and found a lot of spiderwebs. The engine is also covered in Moss and petrol, so cleaning the whole engine is the first thing that I’m going to do.
Looks like turn out great man! Ive got one meself and im saving up to maybe start a build so thanks for posting this 👍🏽
You’re welcome. Hopefully your build will go a lot smoother than mine is at the moment.
Step 1: bigger engine. Step 2: bigger engine. Step 3: bigger engine. Step 4: ok now you can do other stuff
I would do that, but the Bike laws in the UK are really strict when it comes to what engine size someone is allowed to have.
Sounds like a good plan, but you may notice, most of these bikes have spoked wheels but the stock ones are horrible so these need changing… if you figure out where to get these from post it cos im struggling for the gn125!
