5 Reasons Why I Like The Camaro Better Than The Mustang
This automotive rivalry has been raging on for decades and won’t stop anytime soon, Mustang vs Camaro. Both cars are great and have different benefits for each car. I like both cars, but overall, I like the Camaro better, and here’s why.
ONE The Camaro has a bigger engine in it most of the time.
There’s no replacement for displacement, and the Camaro embodies that more than the Mustang. In the 60’s and early 70’s both cars had big engines but since the mid 70’s, the Camaro has had a bigger or same size engine. The Camaro has had a 5.7 L or 6.2 L V8 compared to the Mustang which has stuck with the 5.0 L V8 with most of its models. I also like the sound of the Camaro’s engine better.
TWO The Camaro has met or exceeded the Mustang’s performance several times.
The performance contest between the Camaro and the Mustang has been neck and neck to this day. Just look at these Car and Driver comparison tests, the Camaro beats the Mustang more often than Mustang fanboys expect.
THREE The Camaro benefits from the advancements on the Corvette.
Like how many cars benefit hand me downs from their race car siblings, the Camaro benefits the same way from the Corvette. Corvette goodies of all kinds including the LS1, LS3 and magnetic suspension on the Corvette trickle down to the Camaro. This helps the Camaro compete with the Mustang out on the track and the road.
FOUR The Camaro has been a competitive rival to the Mustang for a long time.
Even though the Camaro had to stop production for several years, it’s still been a pretty good rival to the Mustang. It’s faired a lot better than the Thunderbird to the Corvette, which a lot of people can agree was a flunk. People continue to buy Camaros to this day which is a sign that there’s enough benefits to the Camaro where
FIVE The Camaro handles better most of the time.
This point is especially true for the 80’s cars and the early 2010’s models. The Foxbody Mustang was less composed than the 80’s Camaro and the 2013 Mustang had a solid rear axle while the Camaro had an independent rear suspension. Not to mention that the brand new Camaro got lighter while the new Mustang gained some pounds. If you’re looking for a composed track day car, the Camaro might be a better option.

You my homie!
;)
I agree. It makes a better noise, has a bigger engine, parts are cheaper and easier to find. has a more sophisticated suspension,.. the list goes on and on. Although I like Japanese cars the most, the bow tie is the heartbeat of America.
I like older Camaros better than older Mustangs, but i prefer modern Mustangs over modern Camaros.
Lookwise, Mustangs are better with the sloping curves and those beautiful taillights. However, when it comes to chassis structure, agility, and performance the 6th gen ‘Maro is so far ahead reviewers are starting to compare to Audis and BMWs. The LT1 engine and Alpha platform (regarded by several reviews to be one of the best production chassis ever made) is just spectacular (the SS weighs very close to the GT350, even though the GT350 has carbon fiber bits.)
Agreed, I do love Camaros and prefer it through most generations, but today the GT350R is simply unrivaled.
Bowtie power! It kinda says something when reviewers are classing the 2016 SS with the GT350 instead of the GT ;)
Mustangs are beautiful though and offer better daily driving capabilities (better interior, MUCH BETTER visibility, etc…)
But the Camaro got an IRS sooner than the Mustang.
I think you’re right about the normal models but I think the Shelby GT500 Supersnake does not have a Camaro to match it…
The Super Snake isn’t a factory model.
Shelbys arent factory either. Factory means it comes from the plant ready to go. Shelby is an independent conpany asode from Ford. Every Shelby mustang isnt factory. Thatd be like if GM partnered with Hennessy and started sellin Hennessy Corvettes.
Im sorry but all thèse points are biased. Its your opinion and your enticed to have them. But damn the mustang make more power with l’ESS displacement, has better power to weight, weight less, and handled better at all the test I could find. The only trackworthy ‘maro is the new z28, still slower than a gt350 at 25k more expansive.
Show me then.
I want whatever drugs you are on, because literally everything you stated is wrong bar the hp/l argument, but HP/L is a stupid and meaningless term anyways.

Im a mustang fanboy, and i want to say… If u are a Mustang fanboy and hates on the Camaro.. You just hating on the Mustang too… Both cars are made for the same thing and same way.. Like Evos and Subies.. Its the same
I like the mustang i’m just saying why i like the camaro better most of the time
Nice write up. Had a 2002 35th Anniversary SS. Was a great can that I had a lot of fun with. I’ve always been a GM fan but there is no denying the Mustang is a very good competitor. Without one the other would not have evolved and improved the way they have. Both owe their current success to each other.
Yup
It was thunderbird to the corvette sir you put camaro again. But otherwise even though I am a mustang fan and own a cobra sometimes there is something true to it but…counter argument; Chevy had to be better because they didn’t do it first. ;)
Oops my bad
