After seeing this pic of a 'Subaru Traviq' in the comments, I wondered: what are the most horrific examples of rubbish badge engineering? Suggestions please!

Why? Aston needed something with low emissions so they could continue making the super cars. Would you rather they go out of business?

Is that definitely what it was called post-rebadging? Struggling to find out anything about it!

I actually kind of like that little Fiat/Dodge Pickup. I’d never buy one though.

VAZ 2101 is a re-engineered version of the Fiat 124, main differences between the VAZ-2101 and the Fiat 124 are the use of thicker gauge steel for the bodyshell, an overhead camshaft engine (in place of the original Fiat OHV unit)…. basically this is upgraded version of Fiat

We had one of those! The car itself was okay, but the engine by VW kept breaking down. Duh… VW

This is actually quite common in Europe. The previous generations of Toyota Aygo, Citroën C1 and Peugeot 107 were all exactly the same cars with the same engines and same interior. There were some minor cosmetic differences, but they were all the same car, but with different prices. Funny thing is they also have different resale prices now. The main thing in which they differentiated was options.
The Volkswagen UP, Seat MII and Skoda Citigo are all the same as well. Same story as the ones above.

You actually see this happen most with vans over here. Opel actually buys several Fiats of the shelf and just rebadges them and sells them with a lower margin so the exact same car is a little cheaper. Mercedes and Peugeot had the same car as well; The Peugeot Vivaro and the Mercedes Vito. Yeah, very premium of Mercedes ;-)

Nobody seems to care though, we all know it. Still people choose one over another, thinking it’s better somehow.

I think this happens, mostely in Europe, due to the automotive groups, like VAG, PSA, GM and some business with each other.
Like the Mercedes Citan is badged all over the car with Renault badges, because it is a Renault Kangoo.
Also the Mercedes A-Class (w176) comes with a Renault engine in some models.
Saxo - 106 they are the same, as C1 - 107 - Aygo.
Lancia in the UK is/was sold as Chrysler.
Old VAG models, Ibiza and Polo share the same base.
The PUMA (Ford/PSA) engines, are used in a lot of models, not only in this brands but also in other groups, like Fiat. Land Rover Defender, Range Rover, Jaguar, CItroen, Peugeot, Fiat, and I think Opel also uses them.
There are lots of examples and in my opinion this happens so the brands can reduxe production costs.

It is the same in China, both car are selling at basically the same price, but when you look at it, it just feels something is wrong. Fiat cars should be small, stylish and Italian, however it is now big bulky and American. I will definitely go for the Dodge Journey.
P.S. There is also Fiat Viaggio, it is a less equipped, uglier Dodge Dart. I do not know what Fiat it is thinking about.
