The first episodes are winter 1944/45, the majority of the game is summer 1951. Mafia: Lost Heaven (the first part) was in 1930s.
As great of a game it is, I really wish it had freemode (why is it in a DLC?) but instead you’re stuck with having to do one of the chapters just so that you could roam around. Which really sucks because I like the style and feel of the game along with the cars. They’re brilliant.
Freeroam is included in the Joe’s Adventure and Jimmy’s Vendetta DLCs. Joe’s Adventure also has the Delizia Grandeamerica (Ferrari-ish, 300km/h) and Jimmy’s Vendetta has supercharger upgrades for all cars. Other than that, they are both meh.
There’s a freeroam mod! Search Freeroam mod on youtube and you’ll find it … I personally think it’s one of the best game changing mods!
I believe that’s because it was originally set in 1957, but they changed most of the story trough development. There are videos of the beta, and I think you can spot a Thunderbolt in there.
Concepts were a thing back then :P
Loved Mafia II, awesome game
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven was atleast 10x better, I recomend to play trough it thoose of you who havnt. played it before mafia 2 and it made me sad that mafia 2 didnt compare. Shorter story, not as good story and felt like alot was missing. I would probelby given mafia 2 a 8/10, but compared to mafia 1 it was more like a 6/10
It also has a Merc 300 SL and lots of more cars that arent really 1951…
The first Mafia on the PC was one of the most underrated games ever. Beautiful cars, lots of car-to-car combat and a huge world. A bit blighted by one really hard race that you had to complete to progress, but I think a patch lowered the difficulty. Also had some epic set-piece battles in the countryside and very satisfying shooting.
Someone should just remake that for next-gen! Mafia 2 was great too, but it missed a lot of the first game’s character. But then it could just be my rose-tinted goggles and being an old fart…
man i think me being into computers and cars was probably due to mafia 1. everyone i knew in my family played it. i’ve probably finished it like 10 times by now. If they released a remastered version of it i would pay 60 bucks for it without blinking. man it was awesome. hopefully mafia 3 will be great.
