so last week I needed to wait for the tires of my Volvo…..now they are on the Volvo 2 brand new. in the front. So in between I used my moms car as a daily…. there are plenty of cars in the family car pool at disposal so I got myself the smallest and fuel efficient car for my daily commute.

so first things first…. It has been dead reliable from January on and before there was a dead battery, a leaking servotube and a breakin the car can nothing for….. all repairs combined were below 150€ and about 2 hours of work (for window and servotube).

well I am in pretty much exactly one month of ownership of this hearse =). It is my daily driving machine and I am pretty proud of it. I had every one of the holy trinity of European station wagons: I started with the W124 250d (above picture not my car), then i bought 2 E34 520i Touring and now one month ago the 940.

May I introduce you to my replacement for the E34 Touring: Björn the Tank aka Volvo 940. I struggled with selling the E34 Touring because within a certain budget there was not much to come by. But rust and a broken suspension parted our ways which let me to the decision to sell it. But where to go from here? An upgrade? Well maybe. But this thing should be a very good companion on road trips I guess, which this car is built for. And also daily driving.

Well this is my opinion on the matter and honestly they were way too many to make an honest list of all the racing drivers, but here are a few of my childhood heroes, racing heroes of all time and guys AND girls who pushed it far beyond what was thought to be possible. Buckle up and enjoy the trip through memory lane =)

Yes those three Wagons I choose and I took that picture of my best mates Volvo carrying my moms E34 518i on the trailer to the workshop on purpose if you ask. And yes there are other 90s station wagons, which I will attend to later, but now for what I know and how I chose to take them for the winners. All the three cars above I have driven. The Mercedes is taken from google pictures, but I had driven one just like that. A 1996 Mercedes 250D. And well the other two pictures are my Daily and my buddies holiday traveler.

So I did this for E30 and E34 as it is on the stickies… and since the E36 has many of the engine options of both cars I thought, well let us do this here, too. So let us getting started with the model range.

Hard labor: First cars should be easy to get and easy to work on. Both of these parts might be true for the E30, but they need a lot of work, not exactly a good first project. Cash: Those cars need an excessive amount of cash in the back to be driven on the road. It is not just insurance, fuel and tax, there is also cash for parts. Old cars rust, Suspension will break and the interior will fall apart. Stuff like that comes with age.

The most important step is just your car! Do not put in other cars next to it. But most of us lack of a professional studio, but that is okay. The second step is to put your car into the best scenery you can think of. For me (you might notice this spot from last weeks post), it is this little road into the woods with nice hills in the background. Using a scenery might seem to be not that important, but a good landscape picture awakes some sort of adventure feeling. Sometimes holiday feeling. And that is exactly what you as a sales person want.

So first of all the chassis variants out there. First E30 2-door coupes were sold in 11/1982. First Cars were sold with the M10 (316 316s or 318i) or M20 (320i or 323i). Since 1983 there are the 4-door limos and Baur-Droptop cabriolets. The M20B25 engine came in 1985 and lasted until end of production, the M20B23 ended production in 1985. In 1985 first BMW Cabriolets were built with the M20B25 engine, they were produced until 1993. In 1987 the M10 engine was replaced (sadly) for the M40 engine. The M42 which was very advanced came in 1989 and lasted until end of coupe production.

First let us look at the engines available, because this is much likely a thing which is most difficult to change. I will sort them by engine Code and not size of the engine, so do not be disturbed.

it is an E38 750hl….yes it is very rare and at the Moment you will see none. They were delivered to 100 German Politicians and Movie Stars to test them.
