10 Things You Might Have Missed From Last Weekend's Motorsport Action
In another busy and exciting weekend of motorsport - which included IndyCar, Nascar and MotoGP - here are 10 things you might have missed:
There were two IndyCar races around the streets of Houston last weekend. The first, which took place in wet conditions on Saturday, was won by Carlos Huertas. He secured his maiden victory in the series, holding off Juan Pablo Montoya and Carlos Munoz, making it an all-Colombian podium.
The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team secured a one-two result in the second Grand Prix of Houston race, with Simon Pagenaud winning from Mikhail Aleshin. Rookie Jack Hawksworth impressed by finishing third. The 2014 IndyCar series is now at the halfway point, with Will Power leading the standings from Helio Castroneves.
3. Turkington dominates at Croft
The British Touring Car Championship was in action at the Croft circuit on the weekend, with Colin Turkington taking the first two race wins in his eBay Motors BMW. He dominated the event, taking pole for the opening race and beating his own qualifying lap record by 1.2 seconds. However, he retired in race three, with reigning champion Andrew Jordan scoring the win. The next round takes place at Snetterton on the 2/3 August.
Marc Marquez made it eight wins from the same number of rounds on Saturday after mastering the 26-lap race around Assen circuit in the Netherlands. The start was delayed due to wet weather conditions. He lined up in second and battled with Dovizioso early on, before eking out a considerable lead. He eventual won by 6.7 seconds from Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa.
Brad Keselowski took the Nascar Sprint Cup series win at the Kentucky Speedway after dominating the race. He led 199 laps but dropped to sixth for the final restart on lap 220. He charged through the pack to take the lead with 19 tours remaining. Kyle Busch and Ryan Newman completed the podium.
6. A painful celebration
However, it didn’t all go Keslowski’s way as he sliced his hand on a broken bottle while celebrating his second triumph of 2014. The champagne bottle apparently exploded, which led to him needing four stitches.

The Nascar weekend seemed to be all about Keselowski. He missed out on the Nationwide Series win despite leading 138 laps due to a pit lane speeding penalty, but took victory in the Sprint Cup race. Prior to that, he left the pit lane in the Camping World Truck Series race with a pit crew member still adjusting something on his car.
8. Petrolhead heaven at Goodwood
The ever-popular Goodwood Festival of Speed took place over the weekend. Arguably the best car show around, fans were treated to demonstrations, the hillclimb, meet and greets with motorsport royalty and much more. Team CT attended; be sure to check out our gallery here.
9. Ogier wins again
Sebastien Ogier secured his fifth win of the 2014 WRC season, after finishing Rally Poland in first place. He led the way for 19 of the 22 stages to beat team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen by one minute and seven seconds. Thierry Neuville was third for Hyundai.
The Formula Renault 3.5 series headed to Russia last weekend, producing two first-time winners. Sauber F1 test driver Sergey Sirotkin took victory on home turf in race one, from Zoel Amberg and Pietro Fantin. Meanwhile Roberto Mehri finished race two in first place, with Pierre Gasly and Richie Stanaway completing the podium.
