The 355bhp Porsche Macan GTS Is An Utterly Inevitable Super SUV From Stuttgart
If you’ve wanted a GTS-badged Porsche, you’ve been pretty well catered for thus far. Want a GTS 911? No problem. Boxster or Cayman? Step right this way. Panamera or Cayenne GTS? Much to the ire of Porsche purists, Stuttgart’s happy to comply. And now, the final un-GTS’d Porsche has had those three letters slapped on the boot. Yep, it’s the new Porsche Macan GTS.
Leaving to one side the expected displeasure of those aforementioned purists about another SUV GTS, what’s new here? If you’ve paid any attention to the previous GTS machines, the recipe is familiar: thanks to a little extra power and a few chassis improvements, this new Macan slots neatly between the existing S and Turbo models.
The 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 found in the S has received a 20bhp bump to bring the total output to 355bhp with the torque at 369lb ft, and the car sits 15mm lower on a tweaked, standard-fit Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) package.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung gearbox (Porsche has stopped using the full Doppelkupplungsgetriebe name in its press material; spoilsports), and it’ll do 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds. Splash out on the Sport Chrono package, and that drops to five seconds dead.
Visual accoutrements include a smattering of black trim pieces on the outside plus natty 20-inch matt black wheels, and Alcantara-clad, GTS-badged sports seats on the inside.
