Fear not readers, while the Carrera GTS is yet another edition to the already bafflingly complicated Porsche 911 range, it’s one you should be rather interested in. Available on the current 991 911 for the first time (the previous 997-generation car came with a GTS option), the GTS offers buyers a bigger performance hit than the 911 S, without having to go all-out and get the hardcore GT3 and its rather conspicuous rear wing. How big a hit, exactly? 424bhp, 30bhp up from the S.

Go for the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (or PDK, if you find that a bit of a mouthful) dual-clutch gearbox, and you’ll be whisked from 0-62mph in four seconds dead. The bulkier cabriolet version does the same sprint two tenths slower. Top speed in the manual, meanwhile, is 198mph.

As with the Boxster and Cayman GTS, you get the Sport Chrono package and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard. Sport Chrono includes dynamic engine mounts, while PASM lowers the car by 10mm on trick dampers.

The rear track is slightly wider than the standard 911 Carrera, with flared wheel arches to match. To differentiate the car from the standard Carrera and S, the GTS gets a set of 18-inch matt black wheels, special bits of trim in the front bumper, and smoked bi-Xenon headlights.

Tempted? The GTS coupe weighs in at £91,098 for the standard rear-wheel drive car, and £95,862 for the four-wheel drive Carrera 4, while the cabriolet version will set you back £99,602 in rear-drive form and £104,385 in four-wheel drive. It’s available to order now.
