The 503bhp Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Is Here To Give The M4, RS5 And RC-F A Damn Good Kicking
We’ve already had a glimpse thanks to some leaked images, but we now have our chance to see the new Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe in all its glory thanks to this official reveal. Underneath, it’s all pretty much the same as the saloon, so that means a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sending all its angry horses to the rear wheels.
There’s a range-topping ‘S’ model with 503bhp and 516lb ft, and a still rather bonkers ‘regular’ C63 with a mere 469bhp and 479lb ft of torque. Both models actually complete 0-62mph 0.1sec quicker than their four-door counterparts: the S manages it in 3.9 seconds, while the standard C63 does it in four seconds dead. Both top out at 155mph, but for autobahn and Vmax obsessives, there’s the option of the ‘AMG Driver’s Package’ which bumps that up to 180mph.
Our main concern with the standard coupe - revealed last week - is the clumsy-looking rear-three quarter, however on the AMG it’s less of an issue. There’s a lot more going on at the back of the C63, with flared arches and a boot spoiler breaking things up nicely. It’s still not the most flattering angle for it, but this is a big improvement over the standard coupe, we reckon.
Like the saloon, the C63 gets a mechanical limited-slip differential, while the C63 S is fitted with a plusher, electronically-controlled item. All cars get a set of adjustable dampers with ‘AMG Ride Control’.
So, fancy a car that’s considerably more powerful than the Audi RS5, Lexus RC-F and BMW M4? No prices have been revealed just yet, although expect to pay somewhere in the region of £60,000. If that sounds a little too steep, don’t worry, there is a solution.
