8 Supercars The Dodge Hellcat Redeye Could Beat On The 1/4 Mile
The new Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye is properly, astonishingly, maddeningly powerful. It’s received a detuned version of the Challenger Demon’s V8, developing a moderately absurd 786bhp (or a neater 797hp).
For the base model with its 275-section rear tyres, that’s a bit of a worry. Is there enough rubber in the world to keep Redeye owners supplied with fresh rear boots, after all the unintended smoky launches?
But it’s not the only version of the Redeye available. You can also spec it in Widebody form, which means those skinny rear tyres become 305mm wide fatties. In the process, three tenths are cut from the quarter-mile time, giving a figure of 10.8 seconds.
That got us thinking: what cars could this $76k muscle barge theoretically beat on a quarter-mile run? We’ve drawn up the following list of cars which are either a little slower according to the figures, or exactly the same.
The list does need to be taken with a little pinch of salt - the figures used are a mix of manufacturer claimed figures, estimates and real-world tests, and the Redeye isn’t going to be able to do that 10.8sec run every time. Nevertheless, it makes for interesting reading.
And in any case, a drag race between a Redeye and any of these is going to be seriously close. Let’s cross our fingers for some YouTube videos…

But what quirks does it have?
And on the race track it will be a different story. While Mustang and Camaro moved on a long time ago, Dodge is still using old platform and “shove more power in it” approach. Challenger weights around 4500 pounds for God’s sake.
Who gives a shit. It’s one hell of a car and never needs to change. Don’t fix what aint broke. It still sells in great numbers
When did Dodge ever gaf about going around corners fast? This is a car for the strip. For cruising. And it does that God Damn well. I’d like to see a JDM car pop a wheelie stock
Well it’s not designed for track use but for straight line speed, which it excels at. However, if they’d invest in some weight reduction for the platform I’d drastically increase handeling, acceleration and top speed
Proper muscle spirit
I really don’t see the point in comparing a purpose built drag car with more track-focused supercars, they’re not really comparable.
The Redeye is not a drag car. That was the Demon. This is a hellcat with a demon engine. That’s all, so that means it’s a fair comparison.
Ah, but don’t forget, the drag strip is also a racetrack. In this case the red eye would still be faster on the ‘track’.
Mr ‘Murica says: “Still not a Demon”
Erm. All of them.
Dodge said the demon did a 9.65 1/4 mile but I havn’t seen one do it in under 10 so this I think will lose to all or most of those cars
You likely haven’t seen it because there were very little Demons ordered without the passenger seat and rear seats, which increase the weight a lot. Also, most videos that I have seen haven’t had the contents of the Demon crate installed, and those contents make it faster.
More like 8 cars I would rather have then the Challenger
Why wouldn’t you want a Challenger though
More surprised that the f1 is still so fast
Right ? The 959 is probably somewhere up there still too
“Eat my dust, muhahahaha”
Okay then. How about a mountain pass…?
