8 Supercars The Dodge Hellcat Redeye Could Beat On The 1/4 Mile
The new Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye is properly, astonishingly, maddeningly powerful. It’s received a detuned version of the Challenger Demon’s V8, developing a moderately absurd 786bhp (or a neater 797hp).
For the base model with its 275-section rear tyres, that’s a bit of a worry. Is there enough rubber in the world to keep Redeye owners supplied with fresh rear boots, after all the unintended smoky launches?
But it’s not the only version of the Redeye available. You can also spec it in Widebody form, which means those skinny rear tyres become 305mm wide fatties. In the process, three tenths are cut from the quarter-mile time, giving a figure of 10.8 seconds.
That got us thinking: what cars could this $76k muscle barge theoretically beat on a quarter-mile run? We’ve drawn up the following list of cars which are either a little slower according to the figures, or exactly the same.
The list does need to be taken with a little pinch of salt - the figures used are a mix of manufacturer claimed figures, estimates and real-world tests, and the Redeye isn’t going to be able to do that 10.8sec run every time. Nevertheless, it makes for interesting reading.
And in any case, a drag race between a Redeye and any of these is going to be seriously close. Let’s cross our fingers for some YouTube videos…

gtr you say:fanboys are gonna get triggered
Supercharged vs naturally aspirated.
Actually, some of the cars on this list (570S, GT-R, NSX, etc) are turbocharged.
Owner: I can smoke a mclaren F1 easily
Friend: With ur boat named hell at redeye?
Owner: Floors it
Friend: Buys new underwear
For retro looks the Challenger is the best looking vs. Camaro/Mustang. All that hp a futile exercise in wretched excess. $70k + for any unreliable, mechanical piece of Dodge crap. You must be crazy. Looks, hp, handling, track car they had it right with the Viper they killed off a second time.
People like what they like.
How do you know the Challenger Hellcat/Redeye is unreliable? Or are you just using a stereotype? It’s not like FCA has a spotless record no, but what’s the alternative? Cars that catch on fire (Audi R8, multiple Ferraris, Lambos, Some early Porsches, etc). Don’t forget how those cars are far more expensive too. Or what about the Focus RS with its gasket problem? VW and Dieselgate? Interestingly, you single the Viper out. The Viper is 70K+ too, yet you single it out. When it should also fit the “$70K+, unreliable, mechanical piece of Dodge crap.” So why single it out? The Viper has had its problems over the years (like any car), yet you’re only lambasting the Challenger.
Anything could be categorized as “wretched excess” when you look at necessity. No one needs 300 HP. People barely need 250. 200 Is about all that anyone REALLY needs, anything more could just be said as “wretched excess.” Why do we bother to add more HP then? Because we can. Simple as that. Consumers may want more HP (200+) but when are they ever actually going to need more than 250 HP? Never. But what’s the harm of pushing the limits a bit?
707 Is indeed a bit much, but that’s the fun part. People like different things, whether that be a straight line avenue cruiser (Challengers) or a B-Road corner carver that doubles as a track weapon (Viper). Doesn’t make them any crazier for liking one or the other though.
send delicious car wallpapers please
Everyone’s bitching about the Challenger not being a good track car. Look at the f*cking title people, does it mention track times?
B*TCH PLEASE
