America’s Fastest Police Car Is Now An SUV With A Hybrid V6
The new Ford Police Interceptor Utility with permanent all-wheel drive has beaten off all competition to become the fastest police car in the USA. The 2020 model has blitzed its rivals’ 0-60mph and 0-100mph times as well as recording a faster lap of a test track.
Michigan State Police has been trialling new vehicles for its next order of pursuit cars. Its preliminary figures make the new Interceptor the fastest vehicle that has ever been supplied to any US police force across the two benchmark sprints and a circuit. Its 3.0-litre hybridised V6 clearly packs a wallop.
To add to that, the front-wheel drive 2020 Police Interceptor Utility with the same engine has recorded a faster 0-100mph and faster lap times than the outgoing 3.7-litre all-wheel drive V6 version.
Police Interceptor Utility vehicles hit as much as 150mph in the Michigan State Police tests, putting them ahead of every other model on offer; even saloons with V8 engines.
The new hybrid drivetrain should also manage a 40 per cent improvement in fuel economy versus the old 3.7. Ford is targeting an average of at least 24mpg (US), partly thanks to the wholesale reduction in engine idling time.
By powering the necessary electronics like communications equipment and lights from the hybrid’s lithium-ion battery, the engine doesn’t need to run more than intermittently, Ford says. Applying the predicted fuel cost savings to the number of Police Interceptor Utilitys sold in 2017 would reportedly result in a nationwide savings of over $126 million.

“I’m hot on the heels of some crims escaping in an old Civic AND I’m getting better gas mileage? Amazing!”
I know for a fact these are as fast the Chargers. They literally fly down the highway faster than I’ve seen any sport car willing to go that fast. Also there usually first on the scene. 10/10 this new one will be a good enforcer and a great addition to the police car fleet.
Facts. I saw one in a sketchy neighborhood in NYC the other day floor it and go through tight city streets. These things can haul a$$.
That’s until they run out of electrical juice. Then the 0-62 time is seriously impaired.
Thats like giving a rookie cop a loaded gun, not everyone is ready or deserves that kind of power. They could at least make them pursuit interceptors only. Thanks NFS franchise, look what you’ve done!
We give rookie cops loaded guns too…its called police academy…coming out of it you will know how to handle both
Do we get to know the times to go with these claims or are they not allowed to give that info out?
This is why im happy to live in Michigan… because we make badass stuff!
just don’t go near detroit right now….
Who tf is down voting my comment… just a bunch of selfish people trying to get the top comment
Didn’t an officer in the south buy a hellcat?
But that is different.
These are state bought.
Meanwhile the fastest police car in the UK
And I haven’t even mentioned that R200 Police car from the 80s
Our police interceptor cars are evos and subarus, alot of bmw 530d, those are hardly slow
Meanwhile in Bulgaria, the police has Astra
G 1.4i which they are slowly replacing with the cheapest KIA Cee’ds they can find and are still paying more than normal people even though theu are buying bulk(10-30 cars per order)

Not sure about this. I’ve seen the lap times of cars in previous years, and lap times are inconsistent. For example, the Charger set a fastest lap of 1 minute 36.79 seconds in the most recent test. But in 2013, the Charger set a fastest lap of 1 minute 33 seconds. And in 2016, the Hemi RWD Charger did 1 minute 36.31, and the AWD version 1 minute 35.40. This despite the cars being mechanically unchanged since 2011, and 100% unchanged sine 2015.
