This Audi S3 Nurburgring Crash Is Utterly Brutal

A first-gen S3 driver dropped the rear during a touristenfahrten session last weekend, resulting in a painful Armco hit

Given that the S3’s all-wheel drive system heavily favours the front wheels, this could be a case of lift-off oversteer. Whatever the cause, the outcome is a painful one - the S3 is seen pitching into a section of Armco with violent force.

According to the uploader, neither the driver nor passenger were injured.

Hat tip to Christian!

how come an AWD car oversteer which the system heavily favours the front wheels

It doesnt seem like the AWD system oversteered, he just unbalanced his car and went into that corner too fast

He braked too hard in the corner to avoid a collision with the BMW in front of him, causing the rear wheels to lift. No AWD system could have saved him. Only chance he would have had is to hit the throttle again real hard and hope the front wheels pulled him back out of the skid. I once got too hard into a corner and felt the rear lifting off. I didn’t use the brakes until I felt understeer again. Barely made it out.

Just waiting for Disklock to comment. ;)
By the way, never seen anyone run so fast to get a yellow flag out from rear.

I just can’t watch these… They literally shatter my heart into millions of tiny shards. I feel so sorry for the guy, i can feel his pain. Probably the car he worked for a lot to get, now broken after probably another dream come true…

You know, i bought one of my favourite cars, and i’m working to pay for it, it’s currently broken (that old poorly serviced Toyota life tho), but if i ever end up crashing it, i just wouldnt find the strength to even get up in the morning…

I hope that the guy recovered from this crap already (he did seem really badly hurt emotionally) and that he can get back behind the Wheel of another MK1 S3 soon!

There’s also the fact that, to get to drive on the Nordschleife, you have to sign a contract saying that you accept that your insurance doesn’t have to pay for any damage caused to your car, other cars or the track.
So even if he had full coverage on the car, he’s not getting a single cent.
