The new Audi Quattro is set to arrive on the market with an entry-level sports car version, as Audi has decided against a hybrid-only line-up. The car made its debut at the Frankfurt motor show with a V8 complemented by an electric motor to produce 700bhp.

After positive feedback from customers, Audi has decided to go ahead with the Quattro. The show car's hybrid powertrain was a design study celebrating the Quattro's 30th birthday, however the production car will also feature a version of the turbocharged 2.5-litre five-pot found in the RS Q3, outputting between 340bhp and 360bhp. Given that the original Quattro was also powered by a turbocharged five-cylinder, this is a big deal.

The engine will sit in the front of a shortened A6 chassis, with the body made from carbonfibre and aluminium. Even with the heavy all-wheel drive system, it should tip the scales at just 1300kg, making up for the drop in power compared to the range-topping model.
