Camshaft Software released a major update to the game last week after three long months of work. This update brings with it some refreshing new content including convertibles, several new car bodies, an improved stats screen and easy-to-use car and engine management screens. The team also overhauled the way economy and size calculations are measured.

If you’ve been itching to build a rear-engined car, then you’re in luck: Camshaft Software has heard your plea, because you can now set your engine above or behind the rear axle. But, the developers warn: “…watch out for that massive oversteer coming your way.” For our turbo crazy gamers, Automation now allows you to add a twin-turbo set up to V6 engines.

It sure feels good to know there is still a studio out there that takes players’ feedback to heart!

While the team continues to work on the functionality of designing the cars, they are also pushing forward with the ‘Tycoon’ part of the game. To build a successful car company, you need the ability to measure the various features of each car and determine how likely they are to sell. With the new Buyer Demographics and Market Regions analysis, you can instantly see how the public likes our cars. There are 60 different demographics and three markets to which you will target your vehicles. A detailed chart breaks down the information in reader-friendly scores that can be checked after tweaking the car ever so slightly.

What’s next for Automation? Currently, the developers are working on adding V12 engines to the game to balance some of the main cars’ stats. This isn’t as easy as just modelling a new engine, which is a large task in itself. Every detail must be in order. The engine’s output, weight, cost and more will be assigned in order to give us a proper performance and economy calculation when it’s done.

The game will also get the supercar and hypercar pushrod suspension type, costs and times associated with engineering, and costs for tooling. As early as December, we can expect to see these new features in the game as it moves toward a public open beta release. If you want to get ahead of the competition and familiarise yourself with Automation before the entire world gets its shot, purchase the Early Access version now.
