What do you get if you cross Colin Jackson, a 60m world record hurdler and BBC TV presenter, with a 2012 Jaguar XJ Supercharged with Speed Pack? The answer: lots of laughs, a supremely comfortable ride and an explanation of what Colin is upto with Jaguar's Academy of Sport. Just in time for London 2012 Olympics too. Ideal.
We made the return journey back up to Gaydon after a first-time frolic with Jaguar's XF, XK and XKR-S to visit the "home of British engineering". As well as sampling members of the JLR range we hadn't managed to get our mits on (that be you, Mr. Evoque), we also managed to secure time with one of the finest athletes Britain has ever seen.
Colin Jackson is still the world record holder in the 60 metre hurdles event and can put a tick alongside the "get a medal at the Olympics" bucket-list. However, he also gives back to the community via Jaguar's Academy of Sport programme which aims to help young athletes with the support they might need to reach professional status.
As we were under extra special circumstances with Colin being in the car, we were let onto Jaguar's top-secret test track facility at Gaydon which they also share with their neighbours Aston Martin. Unfortunately as there were so many camouflaged vehicles being tested (at very high speeds I might add), Jaguar thought it best to supply us with one of their more experienced pro-drivers. Which meant I took up the rear seat and fired some questions across about Colin's car history and his take on what GB's chances are at London's 2012 Olympic Games this summer.
The 2012 Jaguar XJ Supercharged which also came equipped with Speed Pack proved to be a fantastic vehicle for the interview. Not only was it supremely comfortable inside, decked out in cream leather and with entertainment such as headrest screens (which I didn't have a chance to sample), it also boasted a top speed of 174mph thanks to the usual limit of 155mph being removed. Performance came by way of a 5-litre V8 Supercharged Petrol engine capable of turning the earth on its axis with 510hp.
But enough of me, go and enjoy this week's episode!
