Chris Evans Reckons Matt LeBlanc Should Be The Main Top Gear Host
Last week, the shock news of Chris Evans’ departure from Top Gear landed. He’d been at the helm of the show for just one series, during which time he’s had to contend with rapidly falling ratings plus his on-screen performance being torn to shreds by critics and viewers alike.
Now he’s gone, that leaves the question of how the show might be re-jigged in his absence. With the BBC currently saying Evans won’t be replaced, you’d assume Matt LeBlanc is the natural choice to step up as the main presenter, and it seems Evans himself believes that to be the best option.
Speaking in his Daily Mail column - in his trademark waffly bit before an iffy car review - Evans said of his former co-star: “For me, he is the man. He is the captain Top Gear truly needs going forward, the perfect torso for the rest of TG’s limbs.
Not only does he eat, sleep, breathe and dream engines, propshafts and trail-braking, but the overwhelming quality that struck me about him is that he’s just such a pro…The simple truth is he and Top Gear were made for each other.”
On the matter of his departure, Evans called himself a “square peg in a round hole”, and said that his role at Top Gear was simply “not meant to be.”
In other Top Gear news, it’s also been reported that BBC bosses have axed a pair of Christmas specials to focus on the next series, expected to air early 2017.

I’ve never read his column, DOES HE TYPE IN ALL CAPS?
good one!
Matt needs to go as well
Sabine should be the next to go. I’ve worked with pieces of wood with more personality. Lineup should just be Harris, Ried, and Leblanc
I have a lot of respect for him now. Yet still happy he left. Matt is great but Rory should be the main host
Top Gear Australia tried this. Twice actually. Even changed networks. Didn’t do anything for it though: still got cancelled.
