Clarkson, Hammond And May's New Car Show Could Be Revealed In A Matter Of Weeks

This week’s news has been dominated by the revelation that Chris Evans will be taking Clarkson’s old job on Top Gear as part of an all-new line-up, but we reckon you guys are probably more interested in what Jeremy and co will be doing next post fracas.

It turns out you may not have to wait particularly long to find out, as today the Guardian is citing an “industry source” who has said that ITV, Netflix and Amazon are all bidding to snare Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. The new car show they end up fronting is expected to be revealed in just a few weeks.

The news comes on the same day as Clarkson’s latest column in The Sun, in which he revealed that the BBC had asked him if he’d consider returning to Top Gear. “A senior executive came straight out and said it. ‘Would you consider going back to Top Gear?’ While I was thinking of a tactful way of saying, ‘I’d rather eat my own head’, I got a text from Chris Evans saying, ‘I hope you don’t mind, but…’” the 55-year-old writes.

In a nod to his future plans, Clarkson goes on to say say that while he’ll miss the BBC, he won’t miss making a car show “because other broadcasters are available so I don’t have to stop doing that.”

We were always pretty sure Clarkson, Hammond and May would go on to do another show together, but now it’s looking all but confirmed, we can’t help but wonder: just what will the original show the trio left end up like? If the departing three carry on pretty much as they left off, it’d be difficult to imagine Chris Evans and his two as yet unchosen co-presenters attempting the same show formula with Top Gear; they simply won’t be able to beat the old lot at their own game.
