The Dodge Challenger 'SRT Demon' Is Coming, Because The 707hp Hellcat Is Obviously Underpowered
Power is by far and away the one thing the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat doesn’t need any more of. After all, it does push out 697bhp - or more neatly 707hp - via its oh-so angry supercharged V8. And yet, it seems an even more powerful Challenger is on the horizon.
It’s called the Challenger SRT Demon, and judging by the trailer above with its scary robotic devil thing plus a few words from Dodge big cheese Tim Kuniskis, this thing’s going to usurp the Hellcat in terms of straight-line performance:
“Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody. Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rendering them totally irresistible to a subculture…The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.”
Dodge has released a mini site for the car, giving a countdown for no less than 11 incoming teaser videos (12 including the one you see here), with the last landing on 11 April. The New York Auto Show kicks off on 14 April, so it seems that’s where the car will receive its proper debut.
As Dodge aficionados will tell you, the Demon badge isn’t a new thing. It was used for a performance version of the Dodge Dart back in the 1970s, one of the lesser known muscle cars of the time. It’s likely this new Demon might make more of a mark, however.

Here’s a leaked pic of a test mule:
Might that be the once rumoured 808hp Hellcat? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out
I will never understand how they come up with cars like this. There must be somebody driving a 700 horsepower car and ending up saying “You know what. That’s sort of lame.”
Nah, it’s just somebody pushed the the basic 707 hp car and lived to tell about it, so that needed to be remedied.
I bet a few years later, theyre gonna make the ultimate Challenger called the SRT Devil
I think it’ll be called the AGGGGGGHHHH as it’s what everyone behind the wheel will say.
This kinda feels like an excuse, like FCA doesn’t want to spend money on a new Challenger. The current is one waaaay too heavy and the Camaro and Mustang have left it in the dust.
You still have to admire though that in these times, we still get 700+ HP muscle cars.
God bless America.
To be fair, it has to handle modern crash specs, and if it wasn’t really heavy, it would crash with that much power. There’s a fine balance where too much power is too much and your car will not be stable anymore.
This is the last hurrah for the old platform challenger by 2020 it’ll be completely different hopefully lighter
I think it is due to the fact that the new RWD chassis that Alfa Romeo developed is going to be under the next Charger/Challenger. The car took extra time to develop and Dodge then had to put new cars on hold and is producing this to hold people over.
Still a old mercedes chassis
GIT R DONE
HELLCAT SQUAD HAS A PROMOTION
707 is more than enough. Any more is useless as that power will go to producing tyre smoke rather than movement. Unless they make it AWD, which I somewhat doubt.
so you’re saying they’re gonna sell a tonne in australia?
