Dodge Viper Gas Mileage Challenge! City Driving vs. Highway Hypermiling!
I wanted to see what kind of gas mileage my Dodge Viper gets — so I drove it around the city and hypermiled it on the highway to find out. Check out my column for the numbers, or watch the video above.

Hypermiling in a v10
Seems legit
“hypermiling” and “v10” should never be in the same sentence
Vipermiling, buddy.
Why buy a prius when you could get a v10 dodge viper:).
42 liters per 100 km?! Whuut! Maybe your fuel tank is leaking?
Right?!
Yeah that’s even worse than what Jeremy Clarkson got whilst racing on track the Ford GT… (He got 8 MPG IIRC) In fact, it’s about as bad as a 35’ F53-chassis RV with a Tritton… And the RV’s heavy as hell!
nah just viper things.
We here in the world of petrolheads are more concerned with smiles per gallon when talking about high performance sports cars
And yet… you must be a little curious.
The world of petrolheads expands beyond the USA, where people cry if fuel prices go over $3 a gallon. We pay almost $2 per litre. Suddenly fuel economy is a real world problem even for petrolheads.

Really shows how amazing it is that the Vipers competitor, the Corvette, now gets 29 mpg on this highway. That beats my 97’ Subaru Legacy, which is a dinky 2.2L naturally aspirated motor. When/if we get a new Viper, it will likely have cylinder deactivation and this may be the last we see of the V10 sadly. Oh well, we’ll just have to make do with a turbo Viper then…
The viper has been entirely discontinued, marcchione drove one and apparently he thought it was too unsafe >.> as far as i know they actually said that a “new viper” won’t be a thing
And I’m surprised about my Vectra’s over 10L/100km gas usage :p
Wow
At least you don’t live in a country where everyone drives 1.9TDI and claims they have something like 4.5l/100km. btw. what engine do you have in Vectra?
Interesting outcome
If you want good gas milleage. make a grappling hook and hook on to 18 wheelers
