Does It Bother You That The Porsche Boxster No Longer Has A Flat-Six?
The relentless onward charge of downsizing has hit Porsche once again, with the Boxster losing its sweet N/A flat-six for a turbo flat-four. But does that bother you?
We’ve been expecting it for a while, but it’s finally happened: the Porsche Boxster range has moved to turbocharged four-cylinder power. Sure, the engines are more powerful and have punchier torque outputs - with the 2.0-litre version putting out 25bhp and 66lb ft more than the old 2.7-litre six - plus there’s the economy benefits to think about. But losing that characteristic Porsche flat-six howl does seem like a shame.

Does someone really give a f* about the cockxster?
What me bothers way more is that it looks exactly the same as the old one
Captain ? I was wondering why arent there any small displacement cylinders on the market anymore. I mean…2 litre 4cyl is probably cheaper and more economical, but would it be a total mistake to make a 2 litre 6 cylinder …and than turbocharge it ? Thanks for your opinions.
Nope, in fact I thought it was a 4cyl since always!!!
Ignorant
I don’t really care what engine the blonde secretary’s porsche has inside, to be honest.
The old 914 had a 4 cylinder engine and no one bat an eyelid. Now that the Boxster has a 4 cyl as well, it’s a true successor to the 914. I am absolutely fine with this move.
944 seemed to have sold well too
As a Mech. E. student, I find it absolutely fascinating that people are able to make smaller engines more powerful than ever before!
I’m not a Mech. E. student and I still manage to find it fascinating :D
No, it’s not ok, A Porsche with a 4 cylinder, that’s just wrong..
it would bother me if they did this to the 911
I’m really surprised that the majority don’t mind! I bought my current car over all of the 4pot alternatives just because of the sound. This would seriously put me off a cayman/boxster
Because they never drove a Boxstwr
