Does It Bother You That The Porsche Boxster No Longer Has A Flat-Six?
The relentless onward charge of downsizing has hit Porsche once again, with the Boxster losing its sweet N/A flat-six for a turbo flat-four. But does that bother you?
We’ve been expecting it for a while, but it’s finally happened: the Porsche Boxster range has moved to turbocharged four-cylinder power. Sure, the engines are more powerful and have punchier torque outputs - with the 2.0-litre version putting out 25bhp and 66lb ft more than the old 2.7-litre six - plus there’s the economy benefits to think about. But losing that characteristic Porsche flat-six howl does seem like a shame.
So, we want to know what you think. Get voting!

next time i drive a boxer i will think that i’m driving a seat leon cupra :-)
ups sry, it was in the wrong order ;-)
Better economy & more power. What’s not to like. True I’d love to drive about in a gas guzzling V10 all day, or in this case a flat six. But fuel prices certainly won’t allow it. Servicing costs I imagine will be cheaper too among other things.
Am I the only one who thinks that the back of the new boxster looks like the front of a dodge charger?
Since porsche started out with boxer engines, and the car is pretty much named accordingly (boxster) it seems almost more fit to do so
The people that voted no clearly have not driven the Boxster. The flat six is right behind your head and it even sounds better when the top is down amplifying the sound. Now the new Boxster have numb steering and a 4 cylinder? Well I guess the old ones will be cheaper.
Someone at Porsche needs his ass removing if this makes the show rooms. To hell with emissions and all the other fluffy rabbit type restrictions, give the punters what they want, and that’s a wailing flat 6!
Not too flustered; the flat4 sounds good if we go by Porsche’s website sample
