The Ford Mustang GT350R Has Been Made Faster With GT500 Stuff
Ford has been awfully thoughtful, we think. It’s ensured that the Shelby GT350R doesn’t feel left out while its big brother - the GT500 - hogs all the fast Mustang limelight. Isn’t that nice?
The Blue Oval has done so by sharing parts and knowhow between the V8-powered siblings. The front suspension geometry of the 2020 GT350R has been completely redesigned, incorporating a steering knuckle lifted straight from the GT500. The steering rack is also new, complemented by a new calibration for the electric power steering.
For any weight obsessives out there, it’s possible to delete the rear seat bench. The exhaust resonators have been put in the bin too, further reducing mass and improving the noise made by the flat-plane, naturally-aspirated V8. Carbonfibre wheels are fitted as standard.
The fettled GT350R follows an updated version of the GT350 which was released for the 2019 model year. It too featured enhancements made possible by the development of the 750bhp GT500.
Speaking about the newly rejuvenated GT350R, Ford Performance engineering boss Ed Krenz said: “It’s always been our plan to take the latest innovations from the GT500 program and strategically apply them across the Mustang lineup…These latest updates to the GT350R keep its performance competitive and on the top of its game, whether that’s on the track or on the street”. We can’t wait to see where else the GT500’s go-faster bits end up.

This makes older GT350’s cheaper on the used car market. Nice!
Ha, as if.
Can’t wait to get my hands on a used 2016-17 GT350 someday…
Pre-owned GT350s are excellent value, fun, and absolute track weapons.

This thing looks beautiful
Wonder how it would look with a wide-body kit…
Just look at Mustang FD cars
This makes me more exited than the C8 Corvette
I agree. The C8 almost looks like a kit car,
Wait is it still based on the pre-facelift mustang?
Easiest way to make a mustang faster, make it more of a mustang.
High revving, manual NA V8 made better? Yes. So much yes.
