Ford's Mustang Bike Rack Patent Laughs In The Face Of Lifestyle Crossovers
Many car manufacturers would have you believe that if you’re into outdoor pursuits, you need to get a crossover. Whenever a new crossover/SUV is launched, there’s always a ‘lifestyled’ version with various lifestyle things like surfboards, bikes and canoes attached to hammer the point home.
But what if you’re a keen biker, and don’t want a crossover? What if, say, you want a Mustang? Well, it turns out Ford has you covered.
A patent from Ford Global Technologies has emerged, depicting an integrated bike rack for the coupe. The system is based around rails which slide out through the rear bumper and are fixed into place, giving a stable platform for a pair of bikes.
It looks like a far neater and more secure solution than an off-the-shelf bike rack, and we’re rather hoping it gets made. It may go no further than the patent stage, but we’ve dropped Ford a line to see if we can find out more.

You mean like this?
hmmm, imagine installing that on a mustang shelby gt350r
More weight over the rear wheels for better launches.
The challenger also laugh at crossovers.
I have mountain bikes and my dad is probably going to get a s550 mustang v8. More reasons showing it is the best car to buy!
Well at least with a bike rack they can ride home after crashing the mustang.

Any car can get a trailer hitch or roof rack installed, and any car with a trailer hitch or roof rack can get any number of off-the-shelf racks for anything you can imagine.
Nothing new here at all, except perhaps incompatibility with those standard systems and an unnecessarily high price to pay for it.
Awesome! No one needs a crossover because they’re the stupidest things in the world just buy an estate if you want space.
Boom.
Didn’t the vauxhall corsa from about 10 years ago have this on it?
