Ford's Mustang Bike Rack Patent Laughs In The Face Of Lifestyle Crossovers
Many car manufacturers would have you believe that if you’re into outdoor pursuits, you need to get a crossover. Whenever a new crossover/SUV is launched, there’s always a ‘lifestyled’ version with various lifestyle things like surfboards, bikes and canoes attached to hammer the point home.
But what if you’re a keen biker, and don’t want a crossover? What if, say, you want a Mustang? Well, it turns out Ford has you covered.
A patent from Ford Global Technologies has emerged, depicting an integrated bike rack for the coupe. The system is based around rails which slide out through the rear bumper and are fixed into place, giving a stable platform for a pair of bikes.
It looks like a far neater and more secure solution than an off-the-shelf bike rack, and we’re rather hoping it gets made. It may go no further than the patent stage, but we’ve dropped Ford a line to see if we can find out more.

Wagon is love, wagon is life. 2 mountain bikes, no disassembling needed. Just open, fold the rear seats, and throw them in. As easy as that !
Screw crossovers! They are the dumbest things ever
