Forget Game Of Thrones: The Grand Tour Is Now The Most Illegally Downloaded Show Ever
Whatever the actual figure Amazon paid to put together the first series of The Grand Tour, it’s almost certainly huge. With that in mind, the company is no doubt rather keen to get a good return on its investment in the form of people coughing up the £79 annual charge for Amazon Prime membership.
Predictably though, online piracy is making a sizeable dent in Amazon’s ROT, and perhaps an even bigger one than anticipated.
According to figures obtained from analytics firm MUSO by Mail Online, Amazon lost a potential £3.2 million in revenue in the UK alone, just for the first episode. MUSO reckons the first episode was pirated 7.9 million times, while the second one clocked 6.4 million illegal downloads/streams.
Chris Elkins, chief commercial officer of MUSO, told Mail Online: “It is the most illegally downloaded programme ever…It has overtaken every big show, including Game Of Thrones, for the totals across different platforms.” Cripes.
What we can’t know is how these colossal figures shape up to the legitimate viewing figures. Amazon Prime does not reveal audience figures as a rule, and isn’t breaking that rule for TGT.
It did reveal however that Clarkson, Hammond and May’s new car show had the highest viewing figures for a debut show on the platform, beating previous record holder The Man In The High Castle.
Growing up on a diet of World Rally Championship highlights and lengthy Gran Turismo 2 sessions, a life in cars was as good as inevitable for Matt.

I dont even bother watching it illegaly cause i cant seem to find an episode where the audio and video are synced together ,it like watching a japanese edition of the grand tour

I personally think that it isn’t so much of a lose because the people that pirated probably wound’t pay to watch it they just wouldn’t watch it at all if it wasn’t for illegal downloading

It’s not available in my country, and I have seen the episodes so far, you don’t pay per episode, you pay per month, so what is the problem with me watching them now when they come out, and paying for the month when it does become available in my country? For all that matters to amazon they will still get my money, so why do I have to wait?

So I’ve watched all the episodes on YouTube but I’ve also watched quite a few MLP episodes online. So both shows actually watch I watch online.

You miserable cheap bastards. I love this show to the bottom of my heart, and it pisses me off when I see that SO MANY decides to go watch it on some crappy website for free, and oh. ILLEGALLY.. People need to understand that you’re basically stealing money from the show, tightening the budget which will make it less awesome. You’re better than this guys..

If you’re from US or the EU stop talking. Minimum wage for you is above 1000 euro. For my country and some others probably, it’s 150 euro. Think about it.
what do they expect when half the world can’t access the platform they air the show on? specially after all the publicity and great reviews, people want to see the show and many of us can’t even get a subscription to do it legally. Personally i am still waiting but i get why people do it.
