Forget The Rumours: The VW Polo R Ain't Gonna Happen

Despite the persistent rumours and VW recently announcing its intentions to produce more R versions of its cars, the ultra hot Polo we’ve been lusting after isn’t happening. Dutch media is reporting that company insiders have ruled out a new range-topper to sit above the Polo GTI. Boo.

This means that the limited-run, front-wheel drive (it was expected that any Polo R would have been four-wheel drive, using the Audi S1’s oily bits) Polo WRC Street from a few years ago will remain the hottest production Polo for the foreseeable future, and the current GTI will remain the top-of-the-range Polo.

Still, we can console ourselves with the fact that the Polo GTI is now more powerful, and comes with a manual gearbox. Every cloud.
