Good Guy Hennessey Will Be Turning The New Honda NSX Up To 11
With its twin-turbocharged 550bhp 3.5-litre V6 engine, innovative hybrid tech and adaptive all-wheel-drive system, the new Honda NSX is arguably the most advanced supercar on the market. Unfortunately, it’s been reported by many in the automotive press that the driving experience is a bit, well, underwhelming. Thankfully, for owners out there looking for a little more excitement, Texan tuning company Hennessey Performance is working on a range of performance upgrades.
CEO John Hennessey told Top Gear:
“When I first started out 25 years ago I modified a Mitsubishi, and soon after guys with the original NSX asked for their car to be tuned. We must have modified at least 200 of them.
So we’ve followed the story of the new NSX, and we really want to modify it when it arrives. Customers we served with the old one want us to do the new one, too. They don’t want to be kicked in the butt by friends with 675LTs and 488 GTBs.”
With advanced hybrid tech we suspect that the NSX will be a tricky car to work on, but Hennessey has already taken this into consideration, planning to focus solely on the twin-turbo engine. “It’ll be about improving efficiencies - exhaust back pressures, intercoolers, that sort of thing. It won’t be anything radical like a 1,000bhp NSX, but 50 to 100bhp [increase]? I think that’s what our clients will want.”
Hennessey’s website reveals that the range of upgrades will include an upgraded twin turbo system, a stainless steel exhaust, a new intercooler, and lightweight wheels. The NSX will enter production in late April, so the tuner has yet to get its hands on a finished example. As a result, expect these upgrades to be made available in early 2017.

It just needs a diet to be honest.
If the new NSX ‘just’ had some weight problem, then the one you should call is definitely not Hennessey. Overtake or VARIS, just to mention some weight-savers….
Yep they should just rip out all the hybrid crap, and then tune the engine the way only hennessey can.
Turn it into a proper NSX, simple and lightweight.
there is always room for weight reduction but it is still lighter then the GTR and only 150lbs more then the r8 v10plus so it really isn´t that heavy, making it lighter would have meant more expensive materials and that would have pushed the price up and we can allready see that the badge snobbery is causing some loud whining on the price as is. And those who haven´t researched what the hybrid tech does for the car should read up on it before asking for it to be removed! The new NSX does weigh some 6-800lbs more then the old one but then again it does have twice the power and it is now a 4wd hybrid and has to comply with crash regulations of today so the hike in weight shouldn´t be a surprise and those who want it as lightweight as the old one really should think about what their asking for and how that task would have to be accomplished.
Are there any Acurate stats?
I see what you did there ;-)
Well it might need new pistons and stuff depending on the power.
Knowing Hennessey he’d probably remove ‘em and just put on some old ones from some car in a junkyard
Reducing the weight might make a lot of difference..
Better exhausts, better brakes, and maybe a ECU remap to get it to rev to the redline faster, that’s basically all this NSX needs…Right? No?
light weight carbon body
It needs VTEC too
Agree with better exhausts, needs more vocals and freer-breathing. Better brakes? I wouldn’t tamper with the drive-by-wire systems. ECU remap yeah, but to make it rev to redline faster? You do know this car revs to redline real quick right. But yeah, think this NSX needs a power boost by about 50-100 bhp and that is it.
Jeremy Clarkson would be proud.
Lovely to see! I like that Hennesey won’t push the car to 1000bhp. Even them needs a bit of variation
To bad John Hennesey isnt exacltly a good guy.
What what do you mean? he’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and he taught me a lot of things
Thank goodness, some tweaks and upgrades to stop the driver from falling asleep.
yes 0-60 in 3sec and 191mph top speed will most definately put you to sleep.
POWAAAAAAAAA!!
