Here's Why You Might Regret LS-Swapping Your Porsche 911
After covering a heroic 248,000 miles, the engine in YouTuber and daring used car buyer Tyler Hoover’s Porsche ‘Apollo 911’ gave up. Instead of dropping in a replacement flat-six, he opted for an LS swap, and we can see why that was tempting.
On paper it looks like a cost effective, reliable solution, and the all-alluminium 6.0-litre LS2 he chose is actually lighter than the original flat-six. Oh, and there’s also the warm, fuzzy feeling associated with irritating Porsche purists.
Now it’s getting toward being finish though, Hoover’s not convinced it was the best idea. One big minus point for instance is the sheer amount of butchery required to fit it in, something he hadn’t expected.
We’ll let the man take you through the downsides of the conversion, but at the very least, it does sound incredible sans exhaust…

LS-swapping a 911 is a mistake because there will be less LS engines available to swap into these bad boys:
I’m happy that there is one less LS motor. One less LS swapped RX-7 is a good thing. :)
Or less LS engines to swap into Caymans
Jk Caymans should have Mustang engines
Just sayin!
I agree that engine swapping is a mistake but it can be a good thing only in cars that originally where V8s
why? They’re brilliant engines…
I hope every LS swapped car owner thaught like that
Apparently if you’ll take a car with a flat six engine and attempt to put a V8 in it, a lot of cutting will be required. Who knew?
They’re good engines, but they don’t work in every car
Well said
The triggered purist is here
If that’s true you should hate the 996 already, so the LS-swap won’t make much of a difference.
I think that the V8 is a bad choice, simce the original brapapapap is worth the trouble..
Oh wrong car
I find it VERY hard to believe that you have to cut up a lot of metal to put a 6+ litre V8 in the place of a 3.6l boxer, especially one designed for front mount in a rear engine compartment car. This is just stupid, you can LS swap a Dacia Sandero, for the love of all things petrol, and it’s practically plug and play!!!! I think I’m beginning to lose faith in #LSswapeverything .
You can ls swap a wheelchair and it’s plug and play… As an inline 6 fanboy, it’s way easier to ls swap than to put a 2jz or m50 on a car
It just doesnt sound right.. Great sound grrat car but it just doesn’t go together that well still kudos for the hard work
Man … he should cam it and bring the exhaust to the front as sidepipes. Its just not right to hear the V8 behind you.
