Koenigsegg Just Wrote An Awesome Middle Finger To The Hypercar Holy Trinity
It’s easy to see why everyone’s getting excited about the Holy Trinity of hypercars being brought together. Here we have the most exclusive cars on Earth made by three of the greatest manufacturers around. They provide an awesome snapshot of where the pinnacle of the automotive world is right now, but there’s one manufacturer that reckons they don’t provide the whole story.
Koenigsegg has just written a brilliant blog post, in which it applauds the efforts of Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche, but wants to let any concerned customers know that its cars are actually faster.
By taking official manufacturer statistics for the 0-186mph (0-300kph) run, Koenigsegg wants it to be known that the One:1 is more than three seconds faster than the LaFerrari, the fastest Holy Trinty car, to that magic number. In fact, it had already managed to undercut the Italian hypercar’s sprint time in 2011 with the Agera R.
While the reason Koenigsegg is probably overlooked is because the Holy Trinity were all constructed at around the same time to provide direct competition to each other, Koenigsegg makes a fair point: it was already making cars like this years ago.

Been a big Koenigsegg fan ever since I saw one on top gear. They’re like the brand you always forget about, but in a great way. I was kinda caught up in the hype too about the “holy trinity”, but then it’s like “Oh yeah, the One:1. Well nvm then”
The mission of Koenigsegg seems to be about engineering and performance. Maybe it is the Ghost Squadron influencing Mr Koenigsegg, the vehicles resemble jet aircraft or a type of super fast military urban assault vehicle. A big part of their light weight and performance the in house designed twin turbo V8. The One:1 is going to be a track and drag race monster, probably the baddest on the planet. The only thing that will probably be better is an 100% electric vehicle.
Koenigsegg is an awesome company, but they build cars to break speed and quickness records. Fastest (several times) car on earth. Fastest car to 0-125-0. Etc. However, they do not build cars to break track records, which is what the trio are designed to do. Why would McLaren spend all that time and money to design a car purely from air and have a massive wing, which is rumored to produce more downforce than GT3 cars, just to be the fastest in a straight line or be the fastest to a specific speed from zero and then back to zero? I respect Koenigsegg, but until track times/comparisons are put out, I’m not taking their word for being fastest.
Never heard of the spa record laptime? Or their goal to take the nürburgring record as soon as they remove the speed limit?
For me, the question has always been whether Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche can build cars that can beat the meanest Koenigsegg out there? I believe they can. Of course, the next question is why they have not done so? The answer is they do not need to because they can achieve all their requirements by selling a car with similar track performance for less the price. The same way that Nissan only needs the GTR to make a statement against 911s. Note that an Agera R can fetch c.USD2.8m or more vs USD1m - USD1.4m for Ferrari to Porsche. This of course, is mostly a chicken and egg story as volumes leads scale leads which leads lower prices which leads volume. Anyhow, it costs them quite a bit to build a missile that can corner as well (One:1). Like Pagani (another upstart), it seems Koenigsegg’s chassis hasn’t changed much since their first examples and the most cost effective way for them to add more downforce to their cars is to add GTR-spec wings. For Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche who have the massive advantage of scale, their hands are also tied in that they have to build a car that has a close resemblance to the rest of their line-up. For these manufacturers, the car should not look like a kit-car or boy racer’s wet dream, and therefore functionality suffers for form. Daily drive-ability also brings build quality and engine reliability requirements, and this ultimately lowers horse power. In short, the heavyweights can build an insane car (remember VW and Bugatti) if they wanted to, even at a loss. A road-going FXX-K or P1 GTR is an example of what happens when they relax the rules a little on their halo cars but still make a profit or break even on them. Now imagine what they can do if they decide to build a car specifically for breaking performance benchmarks?
Its so true i prefer the koenigsegg to the 918, the p1 and the laferrari
Now, that’s the gentlemanly way to win a battle. With pen’s, not swords. Can’t wait to see what Koenicsegg does at the NBR!
Well the koenigsegg one:1 is the fastest road legal car in the world
