The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro promises vast improvements over the fifth-generation model thanks to the fact it’s lighter, faster and more advanced than the outgoing car. We’ll hold off on judging whether it’s successful until we get to drive it, but Chevy’s just announced a pricing structure that sounds mighty appealing before we’ve even got behind the wheel.

Despite all the advancements, the entry level 1LT model is actually less expensive than the equivalent fifth generation car. It’ll set you back $26,695, and for that you get a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine making 275bhp, which’ll help fling you from 0-62mph in the region of six seconds. The LT is also available with a 3.6-litre V6, making 335bhp and 284lb ft of torque.

The full fat SS models, packing a 455bhp 6.2-litre V8, start at $37,295. SS-specific equipment includes cooling systems for the differential, transmission and engine oil, and Brembo brakes with four-piston callipers front and rear. Spec your Camaro with a manual transmission, and you’ll get Active Rev Matching and a limited-slip differential.
