The Most Unusual Car Door Designs - Part 1 #blogpost

You think that this 3 series is boring? Well at least the doors are, compared to these unconventional ones I found on the internet. I managed to find quite much, so I’m gonna split this series into three parts - otherwise the posts would just get too long. The cars appear randomly without any order to keep it interesting.

Nissan Vmotion 2.0

The doors of Nissan’s 2017 concept car open very wide but only have one hinge each. If you have a 7 meters wide parking spot, they are probably even quite comfortable to get in.

If you ever have the chance to get in this car: Pull the door out and then rotate it towards the front.

IFR Automotive Aspid SS

The Spanish Aspid SS folds up not only the doors but also parts of it’s roof as otherwise it would be quite impossible to get in.

Bertone Alfa Romeo Pandion

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010, this car has some of the most spectacular doors ever. Not only the big doors, but also the front fenders turn upwards.

BMW Z1

When talking about fancy doors, everybody thinks of this. They disappear into the bodywork, and it’s actually legal to drive it with the doors ‘down’.

Hyundai Veloster

The Hyundai Veloster is a weirdly styled hot hatch, and to make it even more weird, it has one door on the left and two on the right side. Or the other way around, if you live in a country where everyone drives on the wrong side of the road.

Mini Clubman

‘Hey, let’s build a practical Mini!’ - ‘Sounds great! I know how we’re gonna do it: Just add two tiny suicidal doors on either side and on the rear! The people will love it!’

Saturn SC2

The Saturn SC2 also has a suicidal door behind the driver’s door. According to Saturn this should make it easier to store luggage in the back seats.

GT by Citroen Concept

When you open the doors on this hypercar, parts of the roof will come with them to make it easier for you to get in.

Ford GT40 / GT

Same goes for the Ford GT. On this car it doesn’t make getting in easier tho, as you have to sneak through a small gap between the roof on top of the doors and the cars body. Oh yeah, and if you are as big as Jeremy Clarkson, you are basically f*cked because they will slice your head off.

BMW Isetta / 'Bubble Car'

This unique car came standard with a side-opening, front-facing door. Just watch out when parking it in your garage.

Lancia Stratos HF Zero Concept

This awesome looking wedge-shaped car was unveiled in 1970. The coolest feature about it? The windscreen folds up and works as a door.
