Mr Bean Spent A Veyron To Fix His McLaren F1

Accidents happen. That's why there's insurance. But no matter what you crash or how you crash it, you'll have to go a long way to beat Mr. Bean's repair bill

There’s nothing funny about a £910,000 bill or a smashed-up supercar, but that’s what Rowan Atkinson’s insurance company has had to face after the Mr Bean actor’s dramatic smash in his McLaren F1 in 2011.

The gut-busting figure is the highest single-car repair bill ever recorded in Britain.

What’s more, an insurance specialist has said that now the car is back on the road Atkinson could be paying as much as £60,000 for a year’s insurance. If the insurance company were feeling like revenge, they might even have upped the policy’s excess to roughly £1.5 million – about half the car’s value.

Well known for his love of fast cars and of driving them fast (good man), Atkinson span off the A605 near Haddon in Cambridgeshire causing catastrophic damage to the poor McLaren.

The car hit a tree and a signpost before catching fire, leaving the 240mph road racer little more than a wrecked shell. Bet he'll slow down next time...
