The New Mustang GT500 Could Have Well Over 700bhp
Ford has been caught testing a twin-turbocharged Mustang and plans to take on the SRT Hellcat
Ford is currently in the process of developing its GT500 Mustang and aims to create the most powerful muscle car currently on sale.
Taking on the 707bhp-Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Ford Performance has been seen testing a twin-turbocharged variant of the current Mustang’s 5.0-litre V8 predicted to produce in the region of 740bhp.
Despite the engine being downsized from the GT350’s 5.2-litre power unit, the use of forced induction should see the GT500 take the title that Ford is yearning for. If the rumours are true, the new GT500 will sit around 80bhp above the previous generation car and nearly 100bhp over the 2017 Camaro ZL1.
The Mustang GT500 is expected to go on sale at the tail-end of 2016, with prices unspecified as of yet.

Lol the end of 2016 release. Try 2018
So if the regular gt500 has 750 hp what will the super snake have

The top Shelby had 1,250HP for ‘13-14. That’s from 662 stock. That’s just to give you an idea…
Do they use a downsised flatplane 5,2 from the gt350 or the normal 5,0

why would they downsize? I would think the GT350’s flat plane crank would be a great motor to be given forced induction
The flat crank may not be able to handle that kind of power. Ferrari, known for using them, always had trouble using them in a motor with a displacement larger than 5 litres, but the guys at Ford found a way to make it withstand a higher displacent.
Am i the only one triggered by this downsizing?
Hellcats are expected to make 750HP.
If they can ever get off the line
Ford are trying to Worry SRT but the only people who are scared are the crowds at every car meet ever
Insert he who is sideways shall be smiling meme
If it won’t be in RHD I’m gonna cry
I just hope it’s one of the more characterful turbo motors because a lot of recent cars seem to have suffered a loss of character as a result of the “downsize + turbo” approach to meeting emissions / fuel economy requirements e.g. the current Ecoboost version.
Provided that it doesn’t dissappoint though, I’d want one.
Wonder if I could crowdsource…
