New Turbocharged Porsche 911 Now Available With More Driven Wheels And A Fancy Targa Roof
When Porsche revealed its new turbocharged 911 Carrera range, there were a few versions left behind: the GTS, the Targa and the Carrera 4. The latter two now have been given the expected facelift treatment, gaining a few minor visual tweaks including a vertically-slatted engine cover plus - more importantly - the new downsized 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six.
Everything’s as per the previously revealed Carrera coupe and cabriolet models, meaning more power and better efficiency across the board. Both the standard and ‘S’ versions of each get a 20bhp and 45lb ft boost, plus healthier fuel economy figures of up to 36mpg - an improvement of 12 per cent according to Porsche.
Want the quickest one possible? That’ll be the 414bhp, 369lb ft Carrera 4 S coupe, which will crack 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds - so long as you’ve fitted the PDK automatic gearbox and ticked the Sports Chrono pack option - and top out at 190mph. Thanks to ‘electro-hydraulically controlled all-wheel drive’, Porsche says that this is actually the first four-wheel drive 911 to beat its rear-driven brother in the acceleration stakes.
If you want more headroom there’s the options of the Targa and cabriolet versions, but you’ll have to sacrifice a little performance - both are around 0.2sec slower than their tin-top counterparts. Oh, and our preference would be the Targa over the cab, because that folding roof is insanely cool.
Tempted? You’ll need £81,398 (RRP) to bag the cheapest - the Carrera 4 - while the fast Carrera 4S is £90,843. Want to spend as much money as possible? That’ll be the Targa 4S, setting you back £99,684. The cars are on sale now, with first deliveries occurring early next year.
