The Nismo Leaf Is The EV You Never Knew You Wanted

Yesterday we told you about the an electric Lola's record breaking run, and last week Nissan announced their electric Le Mans prototype. Now they're at it again, giving Nismo free reign over the Leaf.

Nissan Motorsports have had a fiddle, and produced a few aero tweaks as well as a performance upgrade. The Nissan Leaf Nismo Performance Package gives the Leaf a carbon fibre rear spoiler and lightweight 18-inch wheels. The new front and rear bumper give the car a more aggressive stance, as well as actually helping to improve airflow and extending the Leaf's range.

More interestingly, however, is the performance upgrade. Nismo have played with the vehicle control module to eke out more power, thanks to their research with the Nissan Leaf RC.

Unfortunately the performance package is only available in Japan, but if it's successful we can only hope it makes its way west. Instant torque can be a huge selling point to performance junkies, so these packages could be vital in changing the image of EVs within those circles.
