Online Free Roam Has Finally Been Added To Need For Speed Payback

The much-requested mode was absent at launch but has finally been added as part of a free update

A central feature of many recent Need For Speed games has been the online free roam mode. Driving around an open world with your mates and being able to challenge others was an immersive (and most importantly, fun) experience, but when Payback was released last year, it was absent.

It wasn’t supposed to be, but by the time of launch it was one of a number of things which didn’t make it into the final game, something which upset many long-time fans of the series. Developers Ghost Games have remedied this now, however, and the mode - now called Alldrive: Hangout - has been added as part of an update.

The update brings a few more goodies, too. As well as some new customisation options in the form of new tyre smoke and underglow colours comes something called Catch-Up Packs.

These can be bought from the tuning shop for in-game credits and will help boost your car to either level six, 11, or 16, depending on which pack you buy and presuming you’ve progressed far enough in the game (the first one will unlock at the end of chapter three). They should come in handy if you want to avoid having to grind in order to mod your cars to the max!

The update is out already and also comes with the usual batch of bug fixes and improvements.

Having tried both games, I’d say Payback, but I’m extremely biased against FH3 so I wouldn’t recommend listening to my feedback
What I WOULD recommend however is to check out videos of both games on YouTube to compare them and then make your own judgement

Definitely FH3.
A huge car list, varied map with no invisible walls, ton of things to do, amazing graphics, a lot of attention to detail, banging soundtrack, awesome multiplayer…only downside is the amount of DLCs and not all cars are customizable in every way.

Man I wish they added roaming racers to all drive. Don’t they know it’s boring to keep ramming into this guy by yourself?

Thank god!! This game gets quite boring after beating the main campaign, so adding the online free roam has me back at the game.
