This £3000 Smart ForTwo Has A 160bhp, Mid-Mounted 1.8
The original Smart car doesn’t seem like the best starting point for a track car, but this is no ordinary ForTwo. That’s because behind the driver and passenger seats, you’ll find not a piddly inline-three, but a 1.8-litre Rover K-Series engine packing 160bhp. Oh yes.
You might be wondering exactly how the hell that fits, and the answer is simple: there isn’t really any stock ForTwo left at the rear axle. Instead, someone’s transplanted the entire rear subframe from an MG F roadster.
That means - unlike the standard car - it’s now technically mid-engined rather than rear. The kerb weight will have no doubt gone up from the 730kg factory figure, but not enough to stop this from being one very fast Smart.
The car’s front hubs have been altered, allowing for the fitting of MG F wheels and brakes. On the inside you’ll find an MG F instrument binnacle too.
The final touch? That’d be two massive fans to extract heat from the engine bay, which look a little like something you’d find at the back of a gaming PC. Other than that, there aren’t many clues as to what’s lurking under the skin of this Smart.
Interested? It’s being sold on eBay for £2995, and has a valid MOT until November.
