The S207 Is A Hardcore Subaru WRX STI Most Of The World Can’t Have
It’s a funny old thing, the WRX STI. It’s hugely outdated and has found itself competing with hot hatchbacks that offer the same thrills with less drawbacks, but that hasn’t stopped it being a petrolhead favourite. Hell, despite it all, we love the ‘Rex. So that’s why we like the look of the S207: a new, more hardcore version of the bewinged beast.
Power is up by 19bhp to bring the total to 323bhp, while the standard STI’s already sharp steering has been quickened further. The chassis has received a thorough going over too, with new bracing for the strut towers and rear subframe, plus STI-tuned Bilstein dampers all round. Like organ-rearranging braking forces? We have good news: the S207 comes with six-pot Brembo brakes at the front, and four-pots at the rear.
You also get a chunky front splitter, which should make navigating speed bumps interesting. If you fancy a dirty great rear wing to go with that splitter (well, this is an STI) and a gorgeous Sunrise Yellow paint finish, you’ll need to buy the catchily-named ‘NBR Challenge Package Yellow Edition’ you can see above.
The downside? Only 100 NBRs will be made, part of just 400 S207s in total. Oh, and it’s only going to be sold in Japan. Blast.
If you are in Japan, the standard model will set you back ¥5,994,000 (£32,500), while the NBR Yellow Edition is 6,372,000 (£34,586).
